Melinda Dean, RN, is a freelance health writer from Texas with over 26 years of combined experience in emergency healthcare as a Licensed Paramedic (LP) and Registered Nurse (RN). Since becoming an RN in 2010, she has worked in various settings, including emergency nursing, travel nursing, emergency transport with Emergency Medical Services (EMS), critical care, and cardiology testing.

She has held various leadership roles, including Trauma Coordinator, Assistant Nurse Manager, and Nurse Manager. She also holds the Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) certification from the Board of Certification for Emergency Nurses (BCEN). Additionally, Melinda has served as clinical faculty at Texas State Technical College (TSTC), teaching in the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and Paramedic programs.
